excuse me mrs. busybody

it's january. and you know what that means.

nope, not resolutions. or gym memberships. or black eyed peas and collard greens.

something far more exciting and potentially debilitating than that.

a fresh, new desk calendar. with beautiful little blank boxes and 52 free weeks. black font on white stock paper. nothing fancy.

but oh how my heart swells when they are delivered around the office. in fact, i've been hoarding mine in my desk for a few months. peeking at it every now and then, itching to mark it up.

you see, i'm a planner. well, not so much a planner but a look-forward-to-er. nothing thrills me more than seeing a month filled with red ink, black smiley faces scribbled on weekend margins, and pictures representing events (i sometimes draw a legend in the bottom right corner to aid with decrypting.)

so yesterday morning i pulled it out of hiding, ripped off the unnecessary cover page, and started at january. blankly. with not one event entering my mind. at first, i was stricken with panic. what? no plans? no trips or weekend getaways or heck, deadlines?

then i breathed a sweet, soft sigh, just loud enough to lift the edge of january and reveal the bottom corner of february. because for now, for this brief second, my life is free. next month will see a trip to the coast, a dinnerboat cruise, and a trip to medieval times.

but not january. this blessed month holds no such surprises. yet.

give it a few weeks (or minutes), and i'm sure i can find something to fill the spaces. little happenings to decorate my days. to anticipate. expect. await.

but for now, january sits naked.

and i sit content.

Woohoo!!! I LOVE new calendars. My January is definitely not naked though- my fiance plays the sax professionally, so I have his gigs calendared in through like March of this year!

I can completely relate to this! I love filling up my calendar with things to do, but gain a great sense of relief sometimes from having nothing on their except time for me. I hope your relatively free January is a great one!

I'm totally the same way. My sister gave me a new desk calendar for Christmas--a "book a day" one! You would love it.

I'm with you on the new calendar. I've just hung a lovely new one up in the kitchen, with pictures to brighten each day. It's almost like when you were at school, and you had a new exercise book at the beginning of term. Lovely blank pages to write in!

i love my planner. i used to live without one and just used my phone. but there's just something about writing it down and being able to just flip a page when you need to check a date. my january is filled up. lucky, you get to breathe for a month! :)
xx.

I wanted to get a cute desk calendar so bad, but for some reason I can't bring myself to spending even $10 on one! Not when I have one in my iphone, which would be far more convenient when I'm out and about. Anyway, I have desk calendar jealousy! :)

such a good feeling sometimes to look at your schedule and not have anything at all to do. its your calendar's way of saying, take a break. :)

cheers!

This post makes me smile. :) Not only do I adore fresh, new calendars and planners, but it is so gratifying to look back at a finished month with all it's hash and check-marks, days filled with the doings of life, personally or professionally. And on the flip side, it's also nice to to have those "breaks" in life when our schedules seemingly slow down just enough to give us a chance to catch up.

Enjoy your naked January! (Um...ok, that doesn't really sound right, but you know what I mean!) ;)

Angie

Oh goodness... we are SO alike! I'm a planner-holic. I use my phone, my paper planner, my personal laptop planner, my work computer planner... I'm crazy. But it is so fun to fill those boxes and be organized... and the best feeling of all? Crossing things off as "accomplished."

Usually every year about this time I get a new planner or planner pages, because I too love filling them up and looking forward to the events of life. This year I looked at the prices and decided I was going to go green and keep my planner on my phone, but I am missing that planner too much so I think I am going to have to break down and get one! New planners is definitely a life pleasure for me! hehe

We could totally be friends! I am the same about calendars and I jsut got my new agenda/planner for school and I LOVE that its blank for now becuase that means no homework, projects, papers etc but of course its fun to see it filled with fun things and honestly that is what gets me through school half the time! The numerous count downs till breaks and seeing the fun events to come. Have a great week! Enjoy the free time while you can!

there is plenty of time to mark that baby up with black smiley faces and red ink!! xoxo

i like the thought of a "naked" january :) Good call on taking advantage of, and soaking in the idea of being free! And i love that you're a look-forward-to-er. Me too :)

I definitely feel ya on the breath of freedom! My January just got penciled in today, unfortunately. But next month is when it gets super busy! I'm so glad that you're enjoying your new year and your new calendar! I'm so planning obsessive that I hoard 2 calendars, one in my purse, one in my school bag, and I often pair the 2 together and coordinate planners! Yes, I'm nutty! Hehe!
Hope all is well with you! Xo

I bought the cutest planner ever. At the bottom of each page there's an inspirational note, perfect for facebook status or shoutouts. I am excited about jotting down plans for the year too. I love seeing my planner filled with colorful highlights and little hearts and drawings. Happy 2011!
