A REPEAT EXPERIENCE

there's this odd little thing about me. a quirky little catch in an otherwise normal, standard personality.

i really, really, for the life of me, can't read any book or watch any movie more than once without getting utterly, despicably bored. when i devour something for the first time, i do it headfirst and slowly. deliberately. it took me months to get through extremely loud and incredibly close. i paused and rewound "the last kiss" a million times before finishing it.

these experiences-these deep dives into culture and escape and hollywood and different worlds, they are all so much for me, that to do it again somehow diminishes the first time.
but i think i've found an experience i wouldn't mind repeating.

we're driving from our little town in north carolina all the way across this beautiful country to canon beach, oregon this october. to see it again. the second time in less than three years. the first time we saw it, we got there at sunset and ran down under a thicket, and emerged on the shore as the sky was in flames of amber and haystack rock was looming in the distance, touching the heavens. my breath literally escaped me.

it's too far. it's illogical and costly and time consuming to go there again. you people who live in the northwest are so, so blessed to call such a gorgeous place home.

but we're going. mostly because i want to see it again, and partly because i want to see mount rushmore, and this way we can do both.

what about you? what could you read, listen to, watch or see again?

I share your trouble in reading/watching something a second time. There is the rare occasion that I find something savory enough to taste again, and it seems like you've found that something. Being from the Northwest, I totally understand the draw and am so excited (and a little jealous, just to be honest) you get the chance to return. Savor it just as much as the first time.

Ah, that's so awesome. When my family moved from Portland to Atlanta, we took our time driving across the country, seeing a bunch of different places...Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, a handful of new cities. What a fun trip! And I honestly don't think you guys could've picked a better destination.

oh, that'll be such an awesome trip! good call.

i love reading books over and over again, to be honest. the latest is The History of Love. I finished it and automatically flipped back to the first page to read it again. so good!

I saw the photo in my feed and immediately recognized it. I can't wait to read about my beautiful state through your words.

I absolutely can't stand it when I walk in the house and my husband is watching CRANK. Because he's seen it thirty times at least, and I like logic and productivity. Re-watching the same (mediocre) movie defies logic and is the antithesis of productivity, especially when there is laundry to be done.

But when I'm sad, I still watch The Little Rascals movie. I haven't done it lately, but I need to in order to fight this fog I'm feeling. There's something about that movie that makes me smile a genuine smile every single time I watch it.

And as far as traveling goes-- Dresden's Christmas market is spectacular. I would go every year if I could, just to taste that Glühwein and let my cheeks get rosy.

I love this! I've been dying to visit the Oregon coast.

After I travel somewhere, I typically would rather visit a new place then go somewhere I've already been, but I would give just about anything to experience Scotland one more time.

My mom lives in Oregon, and it's gorgeous. :)

And I'm the same way- one of the only movies I want to watch more than once is It's a Wonderful Life, my favorite.

A beautiful post, as usual. Really made me think. I rewind things in my constantly and have trouble reaching the end - sometimes I forget the end before I've replayed it.

I love this. The northwest really is absolutely GORGEOUS! I was just there visiting family this summer and last summer and it's so worth it. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Last summer I got to take my husband for the first time and I'm so happy that he fell in love with it as much as I have over the years!

That spot looks so beautiful! And I definitely have a hard time reading books twice!
I will always watch Pride and Prejudice and love it every time. Little Women too.
John Mayer never gets old either. Or the Civil Wars.
And Chicago will probably always hold a special place in my heart now. Hope I can go back someday!
