to face unafraid

it has started.

the slow process of packing up the ornaments and folding up the tree. of storing the stockings and dusting off tabletops. leaving that one strand of lights by the windowsill because they are whimsical. the few days after christmas are sort of a haze. a slow crawl out of lethargy and coziness. i stretched in bed this morning, only to crumple back under the covers as my body sighed against the dark.

and it's black outside my window. a slow drizzle is blanketing the parking lot. my raincoat is still on and the coffee has cooled against my hands. december 27. not quite new year's. not quite christmas. not quite anything at all really. just a chilly tuesday.

but i've got plans to take robert out for a frosty tonight. to read in my car during my lunch break and maybe take a mini nap. to hold hands with my mama across the old round table and spend an hour on the kitchen floor playing with pablo's new squirrel toy. it's exciting. in its own, little ordinary way, it's riveting..

every day can't be christmas. because that would diminish the splendor of it. but every day can be joyous, and merry. it can be full of cheer and of heavenly love. there's a sweet, sweet world waiting to be decorated. to be garlanded and strung with lights. to be adored and feasted upon. oh come, all ye faithful, and devour it.

" but every day can be joyous, and merry." So beautifully written.

We usually leave our Christmas tree up until the end of january. I just love the lights so much.

I like that..every can't be Christmas because that would really take away the excitement, although I am somewhat sorry to see it come and go so quickly.

Another wonderful post for us today, Courtney. I love your quote about "every day can't be Christmas...." So very true my sweet friend. Hugs x

There are no slumps in life-- only times when we forget to pause and marvel the marvelous.

And even though in the days after Christmas it becomes tempting to think, "Only 365 more to go...", the reality is that everyday is a gift just waiting for us to tear off the wrapping paper and cut it loose from the stubborn plastic twistie ties holding it in its box.

Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year, Courtney.

It's always sad when Christmas is over...but it is so exciting to see the blessings and find joys in the everyday times as well! :) Lovely post!

I need your perspective. I just keep thinking about how I do not want to take down the tree.

I needed this today. The Christmas blues had me down but I am trying to remember to enjoy everyday regardless if there are presents and turkey involved :)

This sentiment is one I try and live every day by. I once watched a documentary of an American family that had moved to Jerusalem. It was that sentiment that they seized upon because you never know when your last moment might be. If you'll see your loved ones come back from going to school or from getting groceries. It really highlighted how lucky we are and that we should never take any of this for granted.

You captured my feelings exactly. Each day should be special and joyous...we have to hold on to that.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! I love that you are leaving some lights up. I actually looked to see if my TV station was still playing Christmas carols...I was disappointed they ended it. I just love that pretty music and for me, the holidays aren't over, at least in my mind!

XO,
Jane

i've never thought of it that way (every day can't be christmas. because that would diminish the splendor of it.") but i like that a lot, now that you mention it.

It's never just a normal Tuesday isn't it? It's always full of something -- something to be grateful for.

New Year's just got a little closer! Remember that! :)
