a sunday kind of love

the weekend was warm, the first balmy saturday in weeks. the community pool opened. the one where mama spent all her teenage summers. the one i lifeguarded for five glorious, frozen lemonade-filled years.

with sun so high and humidity wetting the wispy hairs around my forehead, there was little to do but just be. be still. be silent. be outdoors. and soak up all God had painted.

when it gets like this out in the country, the last place i want to be is over the stove. over the oven. over any source of heat at all. so sunday supper was easy. a simple salad under the shade trees. i tossed together a little baby spinach, bleu cheese crumbles, apples, blueberries, dried cherries, and sliced almonds. drizzle a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil, and you've got a meal.

being outside is magical, and when the sun sets, and the beating heat cools to a warm teasing breeze, i'm reminded of why i stayed in this one-stoplight town. and why i'm so glad my high school sweetheart stayed too.

That salad looks delicious. I spent nearly 2 hrs cooking on Saturday to bring food to a friend's BBQ, it was torturous because of the high temperatures, no more cooking for me on warm days.

Such cute photos of the two of you, but where's that little Pablo?! That salad looks delicious. How wonderful that you are having such warm, balmy weather. We haven't seen the sun for a couple of weeks over here in my part of England, and it's really quite chilly :(

You are so right! That is absolutely the last place that I want to be too-in the house, around the kitchen.

It's not quite that warm here, but once it is, I'll be making salads and eating outside with my husband. :)

that meal looks amazing and I know what you mean. I rarely want to cook in the summer unless we are outside on a grill.
What a sweet perfect moment. Love the photos!

I absolutely love the photos!--especially the ones where you and your husbands are in! You two are such a wonderful couple! And the salads look great too!

I am sorry for addressing you with a wrong name in my e-mail. I looked through different comments to find out your name, but it was still wrong...

I am so happy that you are feeling better! Reading your blog is such a treat for my day. It gives me such happiness!

Love,

Anna

I get all super into salads during the summer months too. You know, your post made me realize that there's really something to be said for staying in the same town you grew up in. All those memories and stories. I don't know if that will ever be an option for me, but we'll see what life brings my way.

What sweet photos + words. Makes me want to be outside now (although it is ridiculously windy, which is wreaking havoc on my allergies). I don't love cooking in the summer time, either.

summer time spark is ignited! yah!!! and the perfect way to start it off is with this sort of walk/swim down memory lane. i love that you have so many wonderful times from yours and your families youth spent around in places you live. pretty special!

this is like out of a scene from a movie; one where love surrounds you all the time. you two are so darling. xo ♥

You two are precious. Your posts make me want to live in a small town in a cottage. Although I've pretty much always wanted that anyways. :)
