sometimes i take the easy way out, it's true. well, maybe not the easy way, but the practical way, which often seems to be the same thing. and it's crazy. i'm creative, passionate and ambitious about some things. but others, eh. not so much. sometimes saving time and money trumps being free-spirited, and i cut corners. in fact, i cut corners twice this week, and it's only wednesday.
i shall explain.
cutting corners #1
yesterday morning, my hair dryer died. it would not even start. and i realized this only after i washed my hair. so there i was, six in the morning, sopping hair dripping down my cold back. and all i could think of was my mama, and how she chided me for going out of the house in the winter with damp hair, and how horrified this situation would make her.
then i started scheming. of a morning trip to wal-mart to get a replacement. i thought, hey, i can make this fun! i'll go right now, super early. grab me an coffee and granola bar from my favorite organic bakery. get to work before my boss. catch up on writing letters at my desk. watch the sunrise on my drive.
instead, i went about my morning as usual, puttering around the house until the last minute, and i dried my hair with the heat vent in my car. static ensued.
cutting corners #2
the other night, i had ambitions of going to the gym. actually using that monthly membership, because right now it's just looking like a pretty expensive "free" t-shirt.
what did i do instead?
exercise on demand. from my living room, in front of the television {did you know there are like 50 free shows to choose from?} i did pilates and hip hop classes and learned the audition dance from cats, all in about 45 minutes. i didn't run on the treadmill, do any crunches, or even really break a sweat. it was kind of pathetic, but i never see robert during the day, and wanted to be home with him.
-------
so my days didn't go exactly as planned. but i'm still just as blessed today as yesterday. and the creativity and energy will come again, just as smoothly and effortlessly as it went.
and i thank God for today. for the chance to be me, even if that means cutting corners every now and again.

I love that picture of the scissors. I'm glad I'm not the only person who cuts corners...I do it often actually. But life is fluid right?
You never know when cutting corners might actually pan out into something fabulous. ;o)
Happy Wednesday! :o)
Isn't it funny how we remember things that our mum used to say to us?! I think it is rather lovely really that we do. One of my mum's favourite sayings was "take your coat off. Otherwise you won't feel the benefit when you go out". I find that I now say that to my grandchildren, so that's how these things are passed down through the generations I suppose. I also like it that I sing songs that my dad sang to me when I was little. I sang them to my two daughters, and now sing them to my grandchildren, and they love them.
I wish hair dried magically right after its washed. wouldn't that be cool? anyway, cutting corners is fine, I guess that makes two of us but as you say, at least we're not square "that line made me smile."
Love your last sentence! You're too cute! Hope you were able to get a new hairdryer!
It sounds to me like cutting corners isn't the end of the world all of the time! :) These post seem pretty innocent to me. I, too, have blow dried my hair with the heater vent in my car, and who can blame you for wanting to be home with the hubby? ;)
You learned the audition dance from cats? That sounds awesome. I'd say you walked down an even more interesting path, how many people can say they've dried their hair with their car heater?
If it makes you feel any better, no matter WHAT I do I still have static in my hair, and everywhere...
I cut corners with cleaning... should I not admit this?
cutting corners is the best - typically a good time saver if you ask me. and i've seen those on demand exercise videos and i'm glad you spoke about them - i was wonderin if they were any good, but had been too lazy to try them out. ♥
That hair dryer story made me smile- My mom hated it when I would leave the house with damp hair- and now I hate leaving the house with damp hair- funny how things turn out that way!
the cats part really made me 'LOL'! i had an incident with my hair iron yesterday. it turns itself on and off but i refuse to replace it until it really doesnt work, so yesterday i parted half my hair as usual and started ironing the bottom. finished that but right after i started the top part of my head it died. so, i had pin straight hair on the bottom and wavy on top. not good. its actually the reason my hair is in a high pony tail in my current post. :) have a great day!
Oh man, when I first started reading this post I got really worried you were actually going to go outside with wet hair- I could just hear my mom in my head yelling at me! ha- how funny you used your car dryer!
At least you exercised at all- I did about 5 crunches and gave up for the night;-)
Hope you are doing well, Courtney!
but hey! now you know the audition dance for cats, so... day well spent. :)
We're all allowed to cut corners every now and then! And drying your hair with your heater isn't the worst thing you could ahve done! Although your hair might beg to differ ;)
And I do workouts on demand all the time. But I break a sweat because I'm not one for exercise. So I always feel good about my efforts. I did a dance off the calories video last week that was truly terrible but I had fun laughing at how goofy I must have looked!
My mom did the same thing with me! She hated when My hair was still wet, and to this day I dont like it when I do it, but desperate measures asks for desperate times, you can't always do what your mother asks!
Cutting corners or being flexible! Sometimes it takes people an entire lifetime to figure out how to do that! I am glad that you figured out a way to dry your hair though. Wet hair in the cold is never fun. :)
this cracked me up! Listen it could have been alot worse, you could have dried your hair at work in the bathroom under the hair dryer. you were very resourceful with the heat vent haha. and you are so right we are blessed to get another day, little things like that arent very important
my mother hates it when I leave my hair wet...i tend to go to bed with it wet when I am feeling lazy. Oh and I wanted to let you know that I gave you an award today for being awesome :)
LOL! You make me laugh girl. I saw SO much of myself in this post. I cut corners all day everyday. If you've only done it twice so far this week, you're already doing better than me! ;P
your blog is cuttttttttttttttte! first time here! love it!
Haha. I loved this post. It sounds exactly like me. :) And I love how you dried your hair. Haha. :D

Don't worry about cutting corners darling. You're much too wonderful to worry about all of that! I don't blame you, I couldn't have forced myself out of the house to buy a hair dryer.
Cutting corners is fun sometimes too!
:)
i love that you used your vents in your car to dry your hair! hilarious!
sometimes cutting corners aint so bad!
You have a sweet blog, with sweet words :)
