a full inbox and heart

mama called me the other day just to tell me my cell phone message inbox was full. and it was true. and i knew it, but didn't know what to do about it. because every single message i've saved makes me smile, brightens my day, and reminds me i am loved.

like the one from robert in april 2009, on my birthday weekend in charlotte. calling with a funny joke, told only in a way that robert can. i hear that 90-second tidbit, and i go back to that beautiful hotel room. the white water rapids. the rock climbing wall where i thought i very well might die, but resulted in the most fabulous zip line ever. it's a gorgeous memory, saved on my silver bit of plastic.

or the calls from my sister and mama, inviting me to go for a walk. the ones from my dad, who hates the phone. for him to call, let alone leave a message, is special to me, and worthy of being saved. i erased a message from one of my good friends once. she passed away in a car accident a few months later, and i'd give anything to hear her voice again.

so i've kept them. and i know i can get one of those recorders and transfer them, so i can save them forever. but right now, i like having them close. it's instant comfort.

just like the people who left them. only a phone call away.

That is so sweet. I often save messages and keep them in my phone so I can always read them again:) There is something so special about those few word notes that make my day so much better! Enjoy your Monday, sweetie

Ps: The morse code cuff you got for your brother for christmas has to be so special:)

I didn't know you could get a recorder for them - will be checking into that. I only have one on my phone, my daugther wishing me Happy Birthday last year :)

When I read this it reminded me of the project that Post Secret is doing called living voices. This is the best link I could find, but there are lots of people out there who save messages. I think it is the sweetest thing ever.

It's amazing how important voices become when you take a moment to think about them. Definitely get a recorder and transfer them. You'll be thrilled to have them one day. Actually, I may start doing the same.

I wish my messages lasted! I think mine only last 60 days then they are automatically erased. I hope to get a recorder someday and record them so I can keep them!

Yes, you definitely need an iPhone! I love saving the messages too. I even save the text messages, especially when my daughters tell me how much they love me. Have a lovely week dear friend.

I am happy I am not the only one who does this, I have messages of my best friend saved up just because they always make me smile.

I always save my husbands messages for a few days. He usually calls me when he is on his way home from work, and I want to see him walk safely in the door before I erase anything.

Beautiful family picture!

XO,
Jane

awwww! i hardly ever talk on the phone so most people know never to leave me a message, but i have two messaged from years ago which i have saved {and continue to save} for this very reason. sure one of them was from the man who is now my husband, whom i talk to everyday, but the message was too fun to delete. the other from one of my best friends who called from amsterdam to leave me the sweetest, most amazing message when i needed it most. when i hear it, i immediately go back to that time in my life and i feel just what i felt then - incredibly, ridiculously, unconditionally loved. who can delete that?!

I'm the same way. I have oodles of voicemails that I've saved over the years, piling up. Fortunately, I haven't filled my inbox up to the brim or lost any of the loved ones tied to these messages. After reading this post, I may thing twice before hitting "number 7 to delete this message".

You are such a sweet, sensitive soul. I totally understand the desire to save voice-mail messages, because something as simple as sound really does make you feel closer to someone and can offer *instant* comfort.

You have such a beautiful family, my friend!

i am the worst when it comes to the phone, i think I am in your fathers boat in that I am just not a phone person. you are so sweet to carry around their messages.

That is so funny that you keep your messages on your phone! I have to delete it right away, but thats probably cause I don't get any sweet messages from people haha

awe lady, i do the same thing with my messages. i keep EVERYTHING, it's so crazy and obsessive but did you know you can have the ones from cell phones forward to your email? that way you can delete the messages on your phone but have folders full in your email account. it's awesome.

beautiful post, as always. ♥
