on being sensitive (and southern)

it's been a long morning.

because people can be mean and i am sensitive and when those two forces combine there is a chance of combustion. or tears in the bathroom stall. same thing.

but just now, a cashier at the local barbecue joint noticed me. my red, puffy eyes and my sore, peeling nose. probably the general look of disgust and discomfort on my face, or maybe that my hair was in poor, mousy condition.

and he offered me complimentary hush puppies.

and right then, on eastchester drive, my day turned around.

do something nice today, folks. you never know whose stormclouds you're turning to sunshine.

how sweet is that!! sometimes i think God sends some unlikely angels into our paths just to give us a little blessing when he knows we need it!

I truly believe that's the way to live. I'm southern and sensitive myself. But because I'm sensitive it works both ways and something really small can bring me so much joy. I hope the rest of your day was filled with nice people.

Like you, I am very sensitive Courtney. It can be hard sometimes, but how wonderful that, in an instant, your day was turned round by such kindness. That makes it all worthwhile, to know that there are such lovely people out there. Blessings.

People can sometimes be so beautiful inside...case in point: complimentary hush puppies. Hope things get a bit better. *hugs* and smiles are being sent your way (as best they can through the Internet).

I liked reading this a lot. I am sensitive and Southern as well. It doesn't mix with living in the Midwest too much. :)

That is so sweet! Why aren't there more people like him around? We need more compassion and understanding in this world. I am sorry your feelings were hurt, and I am sorry that it was a rough day. But that is a great way to turn it all around. I am so glad you shared this story, because I think little acts of kindness need to keep being spread around!

It's amazing how such a simple act of kindness can change a person's day. I'm glad you had that today.

Sending you lots of love.

I'm glad your day turned around :) Isn't it amazing how something so seemingly small as a smile [or free batch of hush puppies] can make someone's day.

I had a bit of a crying in the bathroom stall kind of day myself. Nothing some major puppy snuggles couldn't cure though :)

*And thanks for all you write - you have no idea how many people's days you make with your beautiful words.

Oh, friend. I'm so glad that random act of kindness turned things back around for you. What a perfect reminder to be randomly nice, too!

Courtney -- I hate when people, myself included speak ill of others and make others feel bad.

Hoping your day turned around after that!
